The Birth of the Product
Circa 2016, I was dealing with a difficult cystic acne break out. I had never had great skin and my journey to becoming acne-free was a rollercoaster ride; but cystic breakouts were another ordeal. For those lucky enough to not know what a cystic pimple is, it’s a deep breakout that forms under the skin causing a swollen, painful nodule. Because the blemish develops under the skin, cystic pimples often never form a head and can last for weeks.
With two careers that held an emphasis on physical appearance, the distress of dealing with these stubborn breakouts was immense. Nothing seemed to work. Applying topical solutions and spot treatments only turned the cystic nodule into a hideous, dry, flakey mess that was impossible to cover with concealer. Attempts at releasing the build up trapped under the skin would result in bruising, and further lead to long term scaring and hyperpigmentation.
I became so desperate for a solution to these stubborn breakouts, that I decided I would try my hand at creating my own remedy. As a naturalist with every essential oil, carrier oil, and plant-based substance on hand, I laid out everything I had on hand and began mixing. “What would make sense?” I knew I needed a substance that would be easily absorbed into the skin, rather than sitting on top of the skin. I also needed ingredients that would treat the breakout at its source without over-drying the blemish and surrounding skin.
That night, the first prototype of what would become The Skin Perfecting Elixir was created. I applied the formula to the cystic breakout and went to sleep. I’ll never forget waking up the next day, and the excitement after seeing a drastic change in my skin’s appearance. I couldn’t wait to apply my mixture again that night. The second morning, my breakout was barely noticeable! Relieved was an understatement: It seemed I had manifested a magical potion, one that would put a rest to my paranoia of blemishes and breakouts. Because what’s a breakout to the magical potion I had on hand? From that day, I continued to make myself this treatment and incorporated it into my daily skincare routine. Not only did it help treat active breakouts of all types, but I noticed that breakouts came few and far between.
From this era forward, my skin transformed into a radiant, clear, and noticeably glowing feature. I would receive countless compliments on my complexion, accompanied by questions about my skincare routine. Every time I healed a breakout with my creation, I would tell myself “Wow, I really need to sell this. People would love it!”. Not only did the mixture work wonders, it was formulated with natural ingredients that all have a long list of additional benefits for supporting healthy skin. So what was stopping me? Fear? Imposter syndrome? Lack of resources? Over-saturation in the market? Really, it was all of the above. But the thought never went away. The concept of a revolutionary skincare solution found its place back into my life every time I experienced the results of the elixir first hand.
Eventually I made a promise to myself that I would stop conceptualizing, and I would begin actualizing. The world needed this product and I couldn’t keep downplaying my creation. And so the process began….
